The focus of Mary's work is colour and texture. She works predominantly with transparent glass, often combined with luxurious gold and iridescent finishes and sections of opaque glass to create unique kiln formed pieces. Mary is particularly interested in the ideas of concealment and revelation, as expressed by layering and fragmentation of opposing (opaque and transparent) materials. Her inspiration comes from the environment, natural and man-made, and from textiles.

Mary uses top quality fusible Bullseye glass, imported from the USA.

Having worked as a teacher for many years, Mary returned to college to pursue her love of art. She completed a Foundation Course in Art and Design before graduating with an HND in Fine Art from the University of Greenwich (in 2005), gaining a distinction for her installation in glass. Mary had planned to paint but, thanks to an inspirational tutor, she discovered the magical qualities of fused glass, and there was no turning back!

Mary's first commission was a site-specific piece for West Kent College Library, since then her work has been shown at galleries, contemporary design fairs and exhibitions, mainly in the South East, where Mary participates in the annual Open Studios event each June.
